It was learned from the 8th Annual Satellite Navigation Conference held in Shanghai on May 24, 2017 that my country’s first 28-nanometer Beidou multi-mode chip that supports global signals, "Firebird", made its debut at the meeting. The chip supports four major global navigation satellite systems and is only the size of a pencil tip.

This chip was developed by Beijing Beidouxingtong Navigation Technology Co., Ltd. Zhou Ruxin, chairman of the company, introduced to the media that "Firebird" supports the four major global navigation satellite systems and consumes 60% less power than mainstream products in the market. Its built-in anti-jamming module and ultra-high sensitivity adapt to complex environments, and the required peripheral components are reduced from 25 to about 8, which saves developers costs with high integration.

It is reported that the research and development of the chip has been supported by the National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund. In February 2016, this fund invested more than 1.6 billion yuan for Beidou chip development, cloud computing-based positioning enhancement and auxiliary platform system research and development, and industrialization projects.

At present, the "Firebird" chip has been favored by the market. During this annual meeting, ofo shared bicycles and Beidou Starcom signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The two parties will deepen the application of the Beidou system in the shared bicycle field, including based on the "Firebird" chip and core algorithms, to provide users with more accurate vehicle locations .

From July 2017, my country will launch Beidou-3 satellites one after another. This chip is the first to support the Beidou-3 system signal and will develop simultaneously with the construction of the Beidou global satellite navigation system.

Some analysis pointed out that the iterative development of domestic chips will accelerate Beidou applications into the Internet of Things era.
